Phil Soper, the CEO of Royal LePage, noted that a combination of modest interest rate relief and a growing 'Buy Canadian' mindset is fuelling this newfound enthusiasm for slopeside chalets and mountain escapes. The heightened demand, with 47% of recreational property agents reporting increased inquiries, demonstrates a shift in vacation habits as Canadians look for comfortable, nearby escapes in light of international travel uncertainties and tariffs with the U.S.

Interest rate fluctuations appear to be influencing this trend significantly. Reports indicate that Canadians are reconsidering their vacation options, especially as the financial landscape in the U.S. becomes increasingly unpredictable. The political climate has also prompted 54% of Canadians who own property in the U.S. to contemplate selling, particularly expressing concerns over the political situation south of the border. Many of those planning to sell intend to reinvest their profits into Canadian properties, further enhancing demand.

Among the various factors at play, limited new construction in recreational areas coupled with high demand is keeping property prices strong. The average price of recreational homes rose by 3.8% year-over-year, reaching approximately $982,000.
