The Agency’s Collaboration with Habitat for Humanity
The Agency Miami recently had the privilege of supporting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami in a remarkable initiative to construct affordable homes for families in need. During a dedicated Build Day at the new Habitat Acres community in Homestead, the team engaged in the construction of the very first home, marking a significant step toward creating a supportive neighborhood for low-income families.
The Importance of Affordable Housing
Habitat Acres will provide an impressive 150 townhomes equipped with no down payment and 0% interest mortgages, enabling families to achieve their long-standing dreams of homeownership. This initiative addresses the critical housing shortage in South Florida, particularly in areas where families struggle to find affordable living options amidst soaring property costs. With Miami holding the grim title of having the largest gap between wages and housing costs in the nation, such projects are vital, as emphasized by Mario Artecona, CEO of Habitat for Humanity.
Hands-On Experience for Volunteers
The experience of constructing Building #17 was not just about swinging hammers and pounding nails; it was also a chance for The Agency's team, including CEO Mauricio Umansky and Principal Santiago Arana, to connect deeply with the community. By participating in this hands-on project, they witnessed first-hand the power of giving back. Santiago expressed the sentiment shared by many volunteers: "Home is truly so important. Helping to create it for someone else is one of the most meaningful things you can do," underscoring the emotional significance of community-building.
Building a Community
As the first home in Habitat Acres comes together, it symbolizes hope and opportunity. The recipient, a local woman and her two adult children, represent a new beginning, with one of her children already contributing by assisting on-site. The collaborative nature of this project, where families, volunteers, and organizations work together, fosters a sense of belonging and support that extends beyond mere construction.
The Ripple Effect of Habitat Initiatives
By helping families attain homeownership, Habitat for Humanity generates a positive impact not only on individual lives but also on the wider community. As noted by residents of other recently completed Habitat homes, the combined efforts in building these homes create not just houses, but thriving communities where neighbors support each other like a second family. This sentiment is echoed by new homeowner Latasha Masso: "When we start from the beginning, that means the future will be us. We come together as a team. We’re doing it together like that’s a family." Reflecting these values is central to the mission of Habitat for Humanity. As communities grow stronger, families are empowered to change their own futures through stable housing.
As The Agency continues to align with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, it sets a precedent for corporate responsibility in real estate, inspiring others to engage in meaningful social initiatives. Together, they demonstrate how real estate can play a crucial role in transforming lives and supporting sustainable communities.
